What items can my child bring (and not bring) into the test room?

ISEE 

Prohibited items:

  • Books
  • Papers
  • Rulers
  • Calculators*
  • Beepers, or cell phones of any kind

If a student does not comply, he or she will be excused from testing and the test will be invalidated. 

 

*Calculators are permitted only if the student was approved for a testing accommodation that explicitly allows for calculator use.

 

Students should bring the following to the testing center: 

  • A Verification Letter is required at check-in on the day of testing. The Verification Letter confirms a student’s test date, time, and location. Upon completion of the registration process, the Verification Letter will be emailed confirming test registration details. The Verification Letter is also available in your online account and may be printed out.
    If you are unable to locate your Verification Letter or there is incorrect information on your letter, please call the ISEE Operations Office at 1 (800) 446-0320 or 1 (919) 956-8524.
  • Student identification is required at check-in on test day. Photocopies are acceptable at all testing locations except Prometric testing offices. Approved forms of student identification include:
    •  Library card
    • Birth certificate
    • Social security card
    • School report card
    • School ID
    • Passport or green card 

 

For testing at a Prometric testing center, the parent or guardian must also have legal identification (state-issued ID or driver’s license, passport, or green card). Prometric testing centers will accept only original identification documents—no photocopies. 

 

Students may bring the following materials into the testing room only if they are taking a paper test:

  • Four, sharpened #2 or HB pencils.
  • Four good erasers (if not part of the pencil). 
  • Two black or blue ballpoint pens (erasable pens are permitted)

Students may wear an analog-only watch but may not have a digital watch or timer.

  • Hats (Head coverings worn for religious reasons are NOT prohibited. Hooded sweatshirts may be worn; however, the hood must remain down at all times.
  • Books

  • Mechanical Pencils
  • Notes or Paper
  • Pens
  • Rulers

 

Students should bring the following to the testing center: 

  • The admission ticket (paper exam only).
  • A parent-signed copy of the Parental Release Form, if the parent plans to leave the site while the student is testing (Prometric testing only).

 

Students should bring the following materials into the testing room only if they are taking a paper test:

  • Three #2 pencils with good erasers (no mechanical pencils).

Can students bring food or drinks with them?

Students can bring snacks to eat in the hallway during break. The food is not allowed to be out or present inside the exam room. Snacks should be in a clear plastic bag and drinks should be in a clear bottle. Both should be labeled with the student’s name.

How long will it take to get scores?

SSAT paper exam scores are available within two weeks after the test through the online portal.

SSAT at Home exam scores are released on the Wednesday following the test.

SSAT Prometric exam scores are released on the Wednesday following the Monday-Sunday testing week of the test.

ISEE paper exam scores are usually available 7-10 days after the test. Expedited scores are available within 2-3 days after the test for a fee of $40. This is an option students can select during the registration process.

ISEE computer-based exam scores are usually available 3-5 days after the test.

Which scores are sent to schools?

ISEE: Only scores chosen by the family are sent to the school(s). For any chosen test date, the family must send the full report (no superscoring). Parents can manage the schools to send reports to on their online ISEE account. More information here.
