Score Choice is a term coined by the College Board that indicates whether students may choose which SAT scores they send to universities as part of their college application. Colleges that do not participate in Score Choice require that ALL tests a student has taken be submitted.
First, it is important to note that Score Choice is a term that is technically associated with SAT exams only. While there is no comparable formal program for the ACT, students who elect to take the ACT may encounter similar restrictions. Some schools require that all ACT scores be submitted; typically, these are the same schools that do not participate in Score Choice for the SAT.
Finally, it is also important to note that all of this is based on an honor system. The College Board and the ACT do not have mechanisms that force students to send all scores to certain schools. This means that the burden is on the student to know a college’s policies and follow protocol accordingly—an area where we can advise.
Colleges that Require All Test Scores:
Carnegie Mellon University (asks students to submit full testing history, but students could elect not to send scores in 2020-21)
Georgetown University
From Georgetown’s website: Georgetown does not participate in Score Choice and requires submission of each applicant’s complete testing record, including all SAT, ACT, and/or SAT Subject test scores. We remain firmly committed to a comprehensive and holistic review of all applications, and test scores are considered in their appropriate context.
We at Private Prep advise any student interested in Georgetown to keep this policy in mind when considering their testing plan.
