3 Reasons for Sophomores to Start Test Prep Now

sophomore test prep

Many students have heard from their older friends that junior year is the toughest of high school. While that’s true for some and less for others, there are lots of ways to mitigate that pressure and navigate all of the things a student needs to balance. Starting test prep in advance can be one of them! Here are three reasons why now is a great time for sophomores to start thinking about test prep:

1. You have the time.

The summer before or fall of junior year is a great time to start preparing for the ACT or SAT. By getting started with diagnostic tests in the spring of sophomore year, you’ll be ready to hit the ground running with test prep in the coming months. Starting early means making some progress before junior year gets really busy.

2. The concepts are fresh.

The content covered on the ACT and SAT is linked to what students learn in school, including during sophomore year. Now is a great time to look ahead to take a test while the information is top-of-mind!

3. Preparation is key.

Test optional is a possibility for many colleges, but students can put their best foot forward by seeing how they can do on the SAT or ACT. We recommend that students prepare for the examinations in order to ensure that they have the widest number of possible options when it comes time to apply to college.

What about the digital SAT?

As you may have heard, the SAT is now a digital exam. The ACT is still available on paper in the U.S., and we recommend that most students take it in that format. Either way, a diagnostic exam will help students determine their best path. Learn more about the current SAT format at our Digital SAT Hub.
